Focus on the Fabulous
We had a fabulous first week of school. We started the week with our first day festivities. Students were greeted at the door by teachers and music. Students then went to the auditorium for our pep assembly. The high school cheerleaders started us off on a positive note with their cheers. Next, our amazing staff was introduced. Then kids got to see a video production put together by our Vistas and middle/high students that reviewed the rules. The kids loved the presentation and it was a fun way to review the expectations with the kids. After the video, the kids were treated to an awesome guest speaker who kept us all laughing as he discussed the importance of making the right choices and having courage in the way we live our lives. The rest of the day kids participated in team building activities and various team competitions. All in all, it was an amazing first day and a great way to start the beginning of the year. Thanks to Katrina Ruggles and Annie Rice for organizing all the events! We did a great job of sending the message that with our support all kids can achieve at high levels.
Rewind
This past week I attended the monthly AD meeting in Alamosa. Fall sports season has started and kids will be participating in their first competitions this week. I was able to get into a number of classrooms during the week and saw teachers delivering quality instruction and kids engaged in learning. I also attended several meetings related to TI classes, copier restrictions, job description for parent liaison, and duty schedules. I had the chance to watch the high school volleyball team in action Friday night as the JV and Varsity girls defeated Mountain Valley. After the v-ball game, I headed to the football game to see our Center Vikings get their second win of the season! Woo Hoo! Saturday morning I watched our cross country team compete in Alamosa.
Forward Focus
This coming week will be a busy one with Homecoming festivities. Kids and faculty will participate in dress up days throughout the week. Monday morning I will take part in the NWEA progress monitoring training. We’re hoping that this new feature of NWEA will help us to better target instruction based on the results of student testing. I will be getting into classrooms throughout the week. We will be kicking off our academic vocabulary focus this week! Tuesday afternoon our football team will play their first game against Del Norte and our volleyball team will head to Creede. We will have our monthly Accountability and Board meetings Tuesday evening. Wednesday morning will start early with our BLT meeting. That evening we will hold our annual Open House. Thursday afternoon at 2:30 pm we will have our Homecoming Parade and that evening we will have our Pep Rally! Our middle school football team will be traveling to OMS to compete and our volleyball girls will host Antonito. Friday will bring lots of sports action with three of our teams competing! Good luck to our soccer, volleyball and football teams! Saturday play will continue with our HS volleyball team and our cross country teams heading to Gunnison.
