Focus on the Fabulous
Rosa working with the tutoring kids
This week we held our first tutoring session for kids who did not hit their NWEA targets. We were able to provide five days of tutoring using Study Island to help provide specific instruction for kids in identified areas. Thanks to Rosa Ramos for all of her help and flexibility with this program. She worked in the computer lab all week long, getting kids logged in and working with students to give them extra practice in specific areas. She kept a close eye on their progress, answered questions and monitored their results to ensure we are doing all we can to increase academic achievement for all students. I also want to thank Lori Cooper who helped get all the technology issues in order so that kids could work on the appropriate content area and get the extra practice they need. This tutoring not only helped us to provide extra instruction for the kids, but also helped us to hold them accountable for their NWEA performance. Rosa exemplified our commitment to excellence at Center Schools. Rosa wasn’t the only one working hard to help us meet the needs of our students. Cruzita DeHerrera was a big help throughout the week, helping us get the last students NWEA tested. She was willing to drop what she was doing and test kids as they came into school. This type of flexibility is definitely an integral part of an effective school system, and Cruzita was willing to roll with the punches throughout the week and do what was needed. Thank you Cruzita for your willingness to do what’s necessary to get things done! We appreciate your work ethic!
Panta Villagomez was recognized for his hard work in keeping our building looking top notch. He was recognized by Becky Reed and his colleagues for his positive attitude and work ethic. Thanks Panta for your commitment to excellence in all you do!

Rewind
We completed our second week of Jump Start. I was able to get into several classrooms and see quality instruction going on. Susan Banning had her science students testing density with a fun, hands on, activity. Kids were catapulting marshmallows and discussing the impact of different variables on their experiments. Mr. Hagan and Mrs. Dolan also had the kids actively engaged in the learning process. Our teachers are working hard to provide kids with high quality learning experiences. We had about thirty middle school students participate in the required tutoring program throughout the week. The different meeting this week dealt with NWEA issues, RTIs, and trainings on the digital radio system and Ipads. I also met with the Language Arts team to discuss plans for the regular school year. I also spent time making preparations for the 6th grade orientation, physicals, and pre-registration that will all be held next week. I also worked on revising our walkthrough form and making it Ipad friendly.
Forward Focus
In an attempt to begin quality instruction on the first day of school, we will be holding our pre-registration for 7th and 8th grade students on Monday. The registration will be held in the commons area (cafeteria) from 2:00- 6:00 pm. We would like 7th and 8th grade students to register between 2:00 and 4:00 pm and students in grades 9-12 to register between 4:00 -6:00 pm. At this time, students will receive their lockers and class schedules. Students can also pick up their laptops. Please remember to bring your annual $45 laptop insurance fee. We will also have parents fill out necessary forms for the school year and provide information on sports schedules, practices and physicals. On Tuesday we will hold our 6th grade orientation, starting at 5:30 pm with a light dinner. We will welcome incoming 6th graders and introduce them to the middle school staff. Students will receive their schedules and lockers. Our 6th graders will be the first class to receive Ipads, and they will be given to the students by the technology department the first week of school. We will also be providing sports physicals to our students that evening. Terry Wiley and his staff will be here and offer physicals to our students for $25.00. Physicals will be given from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday. Please check in at the middle/high office if you are interested in getting your child a physical.
Throughout the week I will be getting into classrooms, making preparations for NWEA testing which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday for our Jump Start students, and meeting with different students to discuss educational needs. I have scheduled vertical planning times for teachers to prepare for the beginning of the school year. We will have a staff meeting at some time during the week and a BLT celebration on Wednesday evening. Jump Start will wrap up and we will make preparations for the beginning of the regular school year which will start up next week!
