Focus on the Fabulous
This week I have the pleasure of recognizing our amazing Skoglund middle school students! Throughout the week, on a number of different occasions, I was reminded of what great kids we have here in Center. On Monday I had the chance to eat lunch with our Skoglund Spotlight Students. These students were nominated by teachers and selected as part of our mission to promote excellence in our school. These students have displayed behavior in regards to being responsible citizens and have helped to create a positive school environment. There are only three students selected each month, but there were many students nominated! We will continue to focus on the positive efforts of our students. The next time the students’ great behavior was brought to my attention was when I was looking at behavior referrals for the year. We have seventy middle school students who haven’t received ANY behavior referrals this year. We celebrated these students on Thursday afternoon with a pizza party! These kids have been living out our Core Belief of being committed to excellence in all they do, everyday. Our kids’ respect and hard work were recognized again on Wednesday by Alamosa administrators who were visiting our building. Both the Asst. Superintendent, Mark Meyer, and the Principal of OMS, Susie Paulson, commented on how impressed they were with our students’ behavior and respect. They said that was one of the things that impressed them most about visiting our school! We truly have super kids at Skoglund Middle School and Center High School! Our students’ success and behavior are a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of our staff. With our support all students can achieve at high levels and be successful in life!

Rewind
Gail Martinez and Lisa Renner at the All Valley PLC
This past week I kept busy with various responsibilities including lesson plan reviews, walk throughs, student meetings, and AD duties. Our basketball teams played some great games against Sierra Grande and Alamosa. Our 8th graders also played an extra game against Sanford on Wednesday! Our middle school Spelling Bee was held on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to Katrina Ruggles. Our winning students were: David Macias, Natalia Gonzales, Jordan Lobato, Camille Ruggles, and Luciano Chavez. Congratulations! Wednesday, Mr. Jones and I had the chance to collaborate with the Alamosa administrative team. In the morning, we conducted walk throughs in Center, and that afternoon we traveled to Alamosa to see how they were approaching the teacher evaluation and feedback process. It was a great chance to share ideas and learn from each other. We hope to have more of these opportunities in the future. Friday, our staff attended the final All Valley PLC in San Luis. Middle school teachers attended sessions focusing on the integration process. The Legacy Foundation presented and provided our teachers with some valuable resources. Saturday, I spent the day at the All Valley Classic. It was fun to help host this event in our brand new facilities! Our boys wrestled well and the Classic was a success!
