Focus on the Fabulous
Last week was National School Counseling Week. This week is designed to focus attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within our school systems. I would like to recognize Adele Alfson and Katrina Ruggles for the hard work they do for our students and our school. They have a tremendous impact in helping our students achieve school success and plan for careers. Their hard work helps us to ensure that we are providing ALL of our students with the support they need so that they can achieve at high levels and be successful in life. I apologize for the tardiness of this recognition. Adele and Katrina are key figures in the work we do here at Center and our district is blessed to have them as part of the team. Thank you ladies for your commitment to excellence in everything you do!
Rewind
I had the opportunity to get into classrooms a number of times throughout the week, doing both walkthroughs and instructional walks. Thanks to the staff that was willing to give up their planning time to accompany me in conducting instructional walks- Annie Rice, Kate Newmyer, Kindra Rounds, Gail Martinez and Linda Donaldson. The conversations that we had regarding instruction and learning are always valuable to me and I believe it challenges all of us to work each day to ensure that we are providing students with the best education possible in order to increase academic achievement. On top of getting into classrooms throughout the week, I had several student meetings that focused on students’ needs and providing students with the necessary support to ensure their success. Our basketball teams had two games this week. On Tuesday our girls traveled to Moffat and both our 7th and 8th grade teams won. Thursday we hosted Monte Vista and again, both of our teams came up with wins! Wednesday I attended the monthly AD meeting in Alamosa. Friday our students had the day off as our staff attended the last All Valley PLC for the year. During this PLC, teachers finished working on 4th quarter assessments, received training on using the SLV Evaluation Calculator, and worked on models that would be used in the different content areas to determine how student learning would be measured. I held a short middle school staff meeting on Friday to review with teachers our upcoming Olympics unit that we will be kicking off on Monday! Saturday I supervised the high school basketball games in Antonito. All three teams came out with wins.
Fast Forward
We are excited to kick off our Skoglund Middle School Olympics unit this week! Teachers have been visiting with me about their lesson plans and the activities they are going to be using in their classrooms that will incorporate the Olympics theme into instruction! It’s exciting to hear about the creative and engaging activities our teachers are designing. Monday, Mr. Jones and I will be hosting the SLV Secondary Administrators PLC. We are going to review our BLT and PLC processes and go over some of the work we have done recently with data. We will then be visiting middle and high school classes to observe instruction. Tuesday, our middle school girls will be playing in the first round of the tournament. When and where is yet to be determined as the seeding meeting will take place Sunday evening. The final games of the tournament will be played in Sanford on Friday and Saturday. Tuesday evening I will attend the monthly DAC and BOE meetings. I plan on getting into classes on Wednesday to review Winter NWEA scores with students. Wednesday and Thursday, we will hold parent teacher conferences. We will run a shortened schedule as students will be released at 2:00 pm each day. Conferences will run from 3:30- 7:30 pm. Families will be able to enjoy a four day weekend as we will not have school on Friday or Monday.
