Our new logo at the entrance of our new building!
We finished up the school year by recognizing the hard work of our students throughout the year at our end of the year Awards Assembly. Students were recognized by teachers and staff members for various accomplishments related to academics, effort, character, participation and attendance. Acknowledging these accomplishments is proof that with our support all students can achieve at high levels.

After the awards assembly Monday morning our kids participated in Spirit Day. Thanks to Lisa Renner for getting this is community outreach organized. Spirit Day is an annual event in which our students help to clean the park and along the highway. After lunch, middle school students completed the year end check out. After check out we met in the cafeteria to recognize our top readers for the year.
Monique Garcia was the top reader for the school and read fifty books over the last four months. As a middle school, students read approximately 400 books. Kids received different prizes including watches, water bottles, bags, medals, and wristbands. Our middle school students did an amazing job with the Ticket to Reading Program. After the reading recognitions, Ms. Banning was the center of attention, as she had her hair cut off by the 7th grade class for Locks of Love. She told students at the beginning of the year that the class that read the most books would get to cut ALL her hair off at the end of the year. The seventh graders earned this privilege by reading close to 300 books altogether. Way to go seventh graders and thanks for being such a good sport Ms. Banning. You still look great and the kids had a blast chopping off your locks.
Monday evening our 8th graders participated in their continuation ceremony. Cruzita DeHerrera and Maria Villagomez wished the students well in their speeches.
We all gathered in front of the building for the Cornerstone Removal Ceremony on Tuesday morning. It was exciting to see the time capsule removed from the cornerstone and then the contents removed. After the ceremony I had the chance to tour the new school with Mr. Welsh, Mr. Lobato, and a number of community members. I was amazed at how everything has come together and look forward to working in our beautiful new building next year!
The 7th grade class took their end of the year trip to the Loft at ASC and then went to the Hooper pool to see the light show later in the evening. On Wednesday, the 6th grade class took their trip to the Sand Dunes and had a great time. The 8th graders traveled to Denver for their end of the year trip and went to the Rockies game. Thanks teachers for organizing these fun events for our kids to experience.
Throughout the week, I met with each of the middle school teachers and went over their end of the year evaluations.

Forward Focus
The finished product! She still looks great!
This coming week I will be wrapping things up in my office. On Monday, I will accompany my son Case’s class to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. Tuesday, I will be meeting with Ms. Banning to update some paperwork. I also hope to conduct a couple of the ESL interviews during the week. Wednesday, we will be packing everything in the offices up and moving out.
I hope you all have a great summer break. Take some time to rest and enjoy your families. I’m looking forward to doing just that! I will plan on sending out Center of Focus’ on a monthly basis, to keep staff and parents up to date with what is going on during the summer months.
