Focus on the Fabulous
The middle school staff once again wants to recognize the hard work, positive behaviors, and overall effort and character of this month’s Skoglund Spotlight Students! Congratulations are in order for 8th grade students Aaliyah Porres and Brandon Chavez, and 7th grade students Ethan Salazar and Cristian Guaderrama. These students were nominated by their teachers for the hard work and great attitudes they have demonstrated throughout the year. These kids exemplify our core belief of committing to excellence in all they do, everyday!
I would also like to congratulate Daniel Newmyer on his many accomplishments over the last couple of weeks. First of all, he won the Alan Shephard Technology in Education award because of his innovative instructional strategies in science. He has also been selected as this year’s Center Teacher of the Year. He is passionate about his field and that passion spills over onto our students. Thanks for all you do for our kids Daniel! We are happy to have you as part of our staff and know that our kids benefit from the experiences that you make possible for them.

Rewind
I was able to get into some classes this week and saw some great things going on. Teachers were focusing on TCAP review and were making sure our kids are prepared for the upcoming assessments. I saw a number of great engagement strategies being used to help kids review. During the week, I met with Mr. Jones to finalize room assignments for testing, prepare for the BLT meeting, and to get a game plan for the TCAP assembly. Tuesday evening I attended the monthly Accountability and Board meetings. Our newest board member, James Sanchez, was sworn in. Wednesday morning started early with a BLT meeting. We reviewed our accreditation rating and discussed the School Performance Frameworks, to decide upon what areas to continue to focus on and if there were changes that need to be made for next year. The results of these conversations will be taken to the DLT meeting. Wednesday afternoon our 7th graders got to enjoy some fun in the sun at the Hooper Pool as a result of their Merit Win. A good time was had by all! I spent Friday and Saturday rooting on our middle school wrestlers. Friday we spent the day in Monte and Saturday the boys competed in Alamosa.
Forward Focus
Monday morning we will kick off our week of assessments with the TCAP Assembly! The 8th and 10th graders will spend the day taking the science assessments. Tuesday through Thursday kids will be taking the math, reading and writing TCAP tests. Students will be released at 2:20 pm on those days. Friday we will work on make ups for kids who were absent during the week. Wednesday morning I will be attending the Infinite Campus demo and after school the Wellness Policy work group. Saturday our wrestlers will be competing in the end of season tournament at Centauri. March 25th- April 2nd our staff and students will have off to enjoy Spring Break!
