Focus on the Fabulous
A good teacher is like a candle- it consumes itself to light the way for others.

This week we recognize and appreciate our teachers. We are blessed to have an amazing teaching staff in Center, a staff that is committed to excellence in providing our kids with the best educational experience possible so that we can achieve our purpose of increased academic achievement for ALL our students. Thank you teachers for your hard work and commitment each and every day! You are the reason for our success here in Center!
I want to give a big thank you to Rosa Ramos who helped me to get the middle school make ups done for NWEA. I really appreciate her willingness to jump in and make that happen.

Mrs. Annie Rice- I’m excited to share some of the exciting things that have been going on in the physical education world as well as outside of class. In Middle School PE the students have recently learned how to play pickle-ball, badminton, and refreshed our volleyball, soccer and softball skills. The Hershey’s track meet will be April 30th and have had 34 middle school students’ sign up to compete. This is a very fun and competitive day. Last Friday, April 18th we were fortunate to have John Kessel from USA volleyball come do a free clinic to any MS or HS aged student. They were 48 Center students who attended, yes even boys! It was fantastic to have so many come and learn from one of the best volleyball coaches in the World!
Mr. Nate Koerber- What’s Happening Lately!
With the school year winding down and the students eagerly anticipating the summer activities and weather, my class has met a new challenge the past few weeks in that we’ve added five new students! While initially I had some concerns due to the drastically different levels of English mastery within my class, I have found that some of my more experienced students are terrific peer teachers, and have been my “aids” in assisting the new students in acquiring Basic English. Below I have attached some photos of my “veterans” assisting our new students as we work through some activities that focus on English Language Acquisition.

Rewind
We had a lot going on this past week. Our students were provided with a number of opportunities thanks to our awesome teaching staff. On Monday our 8th graders traveled to Alamosa and participated in the Reality Store and visited the TSJC campus. Thanks to Mr. Vigil and Mrs. Alfson for getting this organized so that our kids could participate. Tuesday our 7th and 8th graders went to Springs for an exciting trip in which they got to visit the Discovery Center, the Garden of the Gods, and a college campus. Mrs. Martinez organized this trip. On Wednesday a number of our middle school students competed at the Hershey’s track meet in Alamosa, thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Rice. I was able to get into a number of classrooms throughout the week to observe instruction and offer feedback. Wednesday evening our band students performed under the direction of Mrs. Newmyer for their spring concert. The students did a great job and I’m always impressed with how far the students have come in a year. We also had the Teacher of the Year Recognition dinner that evening in Alamosa. Mrs. Donaldson’s efforts and accomplishments were acknowledged along with other outstanding teachers from around the Valley. On Thursday our Knowledge Bowl team traveled to Monte Vista for a competition. Friday our middle school track team competed in the meet at Alamosa.
Fast Forward
We have another busy week ahead of us. On Monday, I will be going through the EOY building review with Mr. Welsh and Mr. Knight. We will be conducting some walkthroughs to observe instruction and see how things are progressing at the middle school. Our middle school baseball team will travel to Alamosa for competition Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning we will celebrate staff birthdays @ 7:45 am in the high school lounge. Tuesday I have a couple of student meetings scheduled and I will be continuing to get into classrooms. I will also sit in on the PAARC pilot proctor review. Tuesday evening we will hold the induction ceremony into National Junior Honor Society. This is the last week of the baseball season and our boys will be playing on Tuesday, Friday and possibly Saturday, depending on their performance. The tournament will be held in Alamosa this year. Wednesday morning will start early with a BLT. Wednesday is officially Teacher Appreciation Day and National Nurses' Day, so we have scheduled a lunch for our teachers and nurse! We may try to move this to Tuesday or Thursday due to some teachers being out of the building. I will keep you posted. Our 6th graders will be taking their class trip to the Hooper Pool. Thursday is Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. Mrs. Ruggles sent some information out about activities that will be taking place during the day to bring more attention to this issue. Friday will be a busy day as Center hosting the end of the year track meet for the middle school.
