Focus on the Fabulous!! Viking Cheers!!
The Skoglund History Fair competition was held on Thursday in the library. Students in Mr. Martinez’s and Ms. McEvoy’s Explore classes have been working on their projects throughout the second quarter. I want to commend Ms. McEvoy and Mr. Martinez for their hard work in helping kids get their projects together. I have seen a lot of growth from last year. Kids did a great job on writing their process papers and projects were definitely of a higher quality than last year. I would also like to thank the library staff for helping us with this process. Becky Reed helped to teach a couple of research lessons to the History Fair classes at the beginning of the quarter. She also helped with the organization ofthe displays this week. Carol Phillips and Cheri Garcia were a tremendous help, as they were willing to judge each of the projects and provide feedback to the students. They took quality time to review each project and gave individual feedback that will help the students to improve their projects for the next level of competition. I appreciate their attention to detail in the judging process. From the Explore teachers to the library staff, the support our staff has provided for our students will help them to achieve at high levels and be successful in life.

In getting ready for my mid-year evaluation with Mr. Welsh and the Focal Point team, it became very apparent to me all the hard work our staff has been doing to ensure that we are providing our kids with the best education possible. It was easy to produce evidence that quality planning, instruction, and assessments were taking place to lead to high achievement for all students. We will be reviewing the Skoglund Action Plan and data that will help us to gauge our performance thus far at our Skoglund staff meeting on Tuesday morning. At that time, we will re-focus our efforts and make sure we are on track to accomplish our purpose of increasing academic achievement for ALL students.
Rewind
Our first week back was a busy one! Monday and Tuesday were spent finalizing teacher evaluations through Bloomboard. Tuesday I attended an RTI meeting to start the process of testing a student for special education. Tuesday evening, our middle school girls competed in their first basketball game of the year. The girls traveled to Alamosa and both the 7thand 8th grade teams won. I attended the monthly Accountability and Board meetings that evening. Wednesday morning I met with Carol Phillips and Cheri Garcia and trained them in the judging of History Fair projects. I attended the monthly AD meeting at noon in Alamosa and then came back to Center to help get History Fair projects set up for Thursday’s competition. Thursday morning my mid-year evaluation was held with the Focal Point team. I met with Maria Villagomez later in the day to discuss plans for this semester’s after school reading/tutoring program. That afternoon we hosted Moffat/Mtn. Valley in girls’ basketball, and both of our teams had wins. Friday and Saturday we participated in the CDE curriculum roll out during our All Valley PLC. Our middle school girls competed on both of those days at the Sierra Grande tournament. The girls had some well played games and our 7th graders ended the tournament as the Consolation Champions.
Forward Focus

Tuesday morning we will have a 7:15 am Skoglund staff meeting in Linda Donaldson’s room. During the day I have a student meeting and a scheduling meeting. Tuesday afternoon our basketball girls will host Centauri. Wednesday will start early with our BLT. Thursday I will be getting into classrooms as much as possible. Our basketball girls will travel to Sargent that afternoon. Friday morning we will celebrate January birthdays for the staff.
