Focus on the Fabulous
Our Olympics unit was a huge success and our teachers did an amazing job incorporating this theme into instruction on a daily basis. On Friday we celebrated our closing ceremony with the middle/high band kicking off the festivities by playing the Olympic Anthem. Thanks to Mrs. Newmyer for her work with the students on this. They sounded great! After the anthem, our kids had the opportunity to rotate through eight different stations and put their athletic abilities to the test. I definitely want to recognize Mrs. Rice and Mr. Martinez for getting the Olympics games together. They did an amazing job and the kids had the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities on eight different activities- curling, cross country skiing, the biathlon, the skeleton, figure skating, speed skating, the torch relay, and scooter hockey. Mrs. Rice did a great job scheduling everything and getting it all organized so that our kids could enjoy some athletic competitions as a culminating activity for our unit. Thank you to everyone who pitched in to make it a success! Our staff is committed to excellence in all they do- everyday!
We want to recognize our Olympic athletes who were successful at the various events:
6th graders- Leslie Maldonado, Dolores Estrada and Devin Porres
7th graders- Hunter Paiz, Heather Montoya, Ethan Ellilthorpe, Kaden Vance, Sammy Sandoval and Frank Torrez
8th graders- Juan Nungaray, Fidel Villa, Alexis Sanchez, Omar Mendoza and Jesus Sorzano
We also want to recognize our door winners. We had several teachers who did a great job of decorating their doors- Mr. Welsh, Mrs. DeHerrera, Mr. Koerber, Ms. Donaldson, Mrs. Martinez and Mrs. Ruggles. Our bronze medal goes to Sweden (Donaldson’s Room), the silver medal goes to Jamaica (Mrs. DeHerrera) and the gold goes to Thailand (Mrs. Ruggles’ Room). Congratulations!

Rewind
This past week I had several student meetings scheduled. On Tuesday our students attended the Lynn Reimer presentation. Thursday morning I met with Debbie from PEBC. We had a great conversation about the work we are doing at the middle school and had the chance to visit several classrooms. I was able to watch our high school basketball teams in action Thursday night in Sargent and again on Friday against Cripple Creek. Friday afternoon our students took part in the Olympics competitions, organized by Annie Rice. The kids had a great time competing in a variety of athletic competitions related to our Olympics theme. Thanks to Ms. Reed and Arabia for judging our door contest.
Forward Focus
These next few weeks we will be focusing on final preparations for TCAP. I will be working on plans for the testing schedule with Mr. Jones. At Wednesday’s PLC, teachers will have the chance to plan and prepare for the next few weeks of instruction to ensure we are ready to go for testing the week of March 17th. I have a Kick Off planning session with the administration team on Thursday. I also have a staffing in Monte Vista that afternoon. Our middle school wrestlers will start their season with their first meet in Centauri on Saturday.
