Viking Cheers!! Focus on the Fabulous!!
As we near the end of the year, we are still working in high gear at the middle school and last week was no exception. Wednesday, we started our spring round of NWEA testing. Thanks to everybody who pitched in to help with the testing process. Becky Reed was a huge help in getting everything organized. She and I sat down early on to make plans for the week and get the schedule ironed out. She also helped with getting kids logged on and with technology issues throughout the day. The tech guys were a big help too and were available throughout the day to make sure kids had successful testing experiences. Thanks Julio, Teddy and Holmes for your assistance. I’d also like to thank Annie Rice for her help handing out the testing protocol to teachers and for recording target scores for kids. At first glance, it looks like our kids did well overall. From the conversations that I had with students it was evident that kids were doing their best and taking the test seriously. I love it when students come up to me and tell me how they performed on a specific test, and whether or not they hit their target score. You can see that they are taking ownership of their education and are proud of their successes. We have created a culture in Center where everyone is committed to the pursuit of excellence. Thanks to everybody who pitched in to ensure things ran smoothly!
After testing, our kids had the chance to participate in the career fair that was organized by Greg Malbon and Katrina Ruggles. Thanks to both of them for making this experience possible for our students. This was a great opportunity that helps to prepare our kids for postsecondary options and to be successful in life.
I also want to recognize Kate Newmyer for another successful band concert. The kids did a great job entertaining the audience. I had the chance to do a walkthrough in her class this week and watch her work with the 6th graders on their marching. It was impressive to see how well our 6th graders are performing. Thanks Kate, for working so hard to build our band program into a solid, well performing group of kids!

Rewind
Last week my focus was getting into as many classes as possible. I was able to do quite a few walkthroughs, provide feedback on instruction, and review lesson plans. I had two expulsion meetings during the week. Monday I met with Brent Jones to finalize some color and furniture options and after school I attended the calendar committee meeting. Tuesday we had an early Bully Prevention meeting and after school our middle school baseball team beat Sargent. Wednesday was an early release day. We completed science and reading NWEA testing and held the career fair. After students were released, we held our last PLC for the year. Thursday, we continued NWEA testing in our language arts classes. Our middle school boys had a baseball game against Alamosa and we hosted our annual Knowledge Bowl meet. Thanks to everybody who helped with the meet. Saturday our track team traveled to Centauri for the meet. I spent the weekend in Denver at the annual CADA conference getting updated on the latest issues in athletics.
Forward Focus
Monday, our 8th graders will be participating in the Reality Store at OMS. This is another great experience for our kids that reinforces our core belief of preparing our kids to be successful in life and makes a direct correlation between the hard work they do today in school and their future. Tuesday I plan on getting into classrooms to complete final rounds of walkthroughs for the year. Tuesday afternoon our baseball team will play against Monte Vista at our place. I have a couple of RTI meetings scheduled during the week. Wednesday I’m heading back to Denver for the 9News Science Day at Rockies Field. We are taking forty middle/high students as a reward for the hard work this year. The middle school students were chosen as part of our reading incentive progam and the top 20 readers from the middle school were invited to go. Mrs. Rice will be taking a group of students to compete at the Hershey’s track meet on Wednesday as well. Thursday I will be meeting with the administrative team to complete end of the year evaluations. We will work throughout the week to finish up NWEA make ups.
Thanks for all you do! Have a great week!
