Focus on the Fabulous
We are committed to excellence in all we do every day. I’d like to recognize a number of staff members that I saw fulfilling this core belief over the last several weeks, on a daily basis. First of all, I’d like to recognize Chris Segura. He is in charge of keeping the middle/high portion of the building in top shape and he does an excellent job of making that happen on a daily basis. Every time I see him, he is hard at work. He is always willing to help with whatever is asked. He has definitely been a great addition to our team and we all appreciate his commitment to doing his job well! Thanks to Chris, for his hard work and commitment to excellence. He sets a great example for all of us.
I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of Cruzita DeHerrera the last couple of weeks. She has taken on extra responsibilities and made sure that we are staying on top of attendance issues and holding kids accountable. She is committed to doing her job well and ensures that there is follow through with our students and that we are providing our students with support so that they can be successful. Thanks to Cruzita for her commitment to excellence.
Marsha Felmlee and Debra Lujan worked hard all week long getting our TCAP booklets ready for testing. It takes a team effort to get everything accomplished that is necessary and Marsha and Deb are an integral part of the team. Thank you ladies for your hard work and dedication in making sure that we are prepared for testing. You deserve a hip, hip hooray!
The middle school staff did a great job the last couple of weeks with quality instruction focused on TCAP review. The quality planning and instruction we are providing our students with will lead to increased student achievement. I feel confident that we will see that demonstrated on our TCAP results!
We celebrated birthdays on Wednesday morning. Thanks to Gail Martinez for preparing goodies for our staff to enjoy!
Last week I mentioned our Science Fair winners but I wanted to make sure that all the students who were successful were recognized for their accomplishments. Congratulations are in order for Camille Ruggles who won the following awards: Colorado Soil & Water Conservation Society ($30), Center Soil & Water ($50), Rio Grande Water Conservation District ($50), Broadcom Masters Application for Trip to D.C., and 2nd Place: Earth Science ($20). Joaquin Martinez was recognized with an Honorable Mention in Engineering and Omar Mendoza, Alexis Sanchez and Shannon Weatherford also earned Honorable Mentions for their Rube Goldberg experiment.

Rewind
We kept busy getting ready for TCAP this past week. We finalized the testing schedule and made sure that all our students have the necessary accommodations in place for testing. We had our monthly Accountability and BOE meetings on Tuesday night. I was able to finish my third quarter walk throughs this past week. I had a couple of RTI meetings to discuss student progress and ensure all of our students are on track for finishing the year successfully. We had a quick staff meeting on Friday afternoon to make sure everybody is clear on plans for TCAP testing and ready to roll on Monday. Our middle school wrestlers had a busy weekend, wrestling at Monte Vista on Friday and again on Saturday in Alamosa.
Forward Focus
Monday morning we will kick off our TCAP testing with a pep assembly. We will be recognizing the accomplishments of students on last year’s TCAP. We have identified the top five students from each grade, 6-8, that showed the most growth on TCAP last year. We will acknowledge and reward these accomplishments! Our students will be taking TCAP tests throughout the week. On Monday we will start with the math section of the tests. Tuesday and Wednesday we will take the reading and writing sessions of the test. Thursday we will be back on a regular schedule and this will be the last day for students for the week. Friday will be a work day for the teachers. We will be hosting the end of the year middle school wrestling tournament at Center on Friday.
