Focus on the Fabulous
We had a lot going on the week before break. Students were busy conducting research in a couple of their classes. Students in Explore classes finished up their History Fair projects and competed in the school competition on December 18th. Mr. Vigil did a great job getting the competition organized and coordinating the schedule for the Explore classes. Thanks to Ms. McEvoy and Mrs. Rice for their hard work with the History Fair kids. The winners from the competiton were:

Students in Mr. Hagan’s class were also working on research projects. Students had conducted research on renewable energy sources around the Valley, created Power points and display boards, and presented their information to the class.
Ms. McEvoy had her photography students taking part in an actual photo shoot. Students all assumed different roles and had various responsibilities in making sure the shoot went off without a hitch.
All of these teachers are working hard to ensure that quality instruction is going on in the classroom on a daily basis.
We ended the year on a high note with our annual Christmas party. Thanks to Mr. Welsh for hosting and Mrs. Cooper for getting everything together. It was a fun way to end the year and everyone seemed to have a great time!

Rewind
It was nice to have a couple of weeks off to celebrate Christmas and spend time with family and friends. We wrapped up the end of our second quarter the week before break, which marks half way through our school year. Tuesday of that week, Mr. Welsh, Mr. Jones, and I met with administrators from Rocky Ford to discuss different approaches we are taking in our districts and the impact of those efforts. I was able to finish up all my walkthroughs which will help me as I work on mid-year evaluations for my staff. Our teachers administered their end of the quarter finals on Wednesday and Thursday before break, and Friday teachers finalized grades and began making preparations for the third quarter.
I spent quite a bit of time going over NWEA scores and analyzing that information. I sent the results to the teachers and I used that information to determine which students would be required to attend after school tutoring for the third quarter.

Fast Forward
We will be back at it bright and early Monday morning. I will start the day by reviewing lesson plans and scheduling walk throughs for the week. I have a couple of student meetings scheduled during the week. On Wednesday I will be meeting with the administration team on midyear re-budgeting and building reviews. At noon I have my monthly AD meeting in Alamosa. The majority of my time this week will be spent on midyear teacher evaluations. I will be finalizing reports and scheduling meetings with staff members. Our middle school girls’ basketball team will have their first competition this weekend at the Sierra Grande tournament.
