Viking Cheers!! Focus on the Fabulous!!
We had a lot of fun this week with all of the homecoming activities. Lauren McEvoy did a great job with homecoming in her first year as Student Council sponsor! The kids and adults had fun dressing up for all of the different theme days! The pep assembly and parade were fun and well organized and our band sounded great! Homecoming demonstrated Everyone’s commitment to Excellence!

Rewind
Monday I conducted my first round of instructional walks with Linda Donaldson and Susan Banning. With this first round of walks we focused on objectives, DFAs, and engagement. We had some great conversations and it was helpful to view instruction from various perspectives. This collaborative approach will allow us to share ideas and strategies and benefit from each others’ expertise to improve instruction across the board. It also helps to reinforce our core belief that
quality planning, instruction, and assessments lead to high achievement for all students. Working together we can ensure that this is happening in all classrooms for all of our students.
I supervised the middle school football game on Tuesday night. Our football team continues to excel and remain undefeated!
They played Sargent on Tuesday and Monte on Thursday.
Wednesday, I attended the monthly AD meeting in Alamosa. We discussed fall sports’ issues and made plans for the upcoming volleyball tournament that will be held in Sierra Grande. When I returned to the building I attended the last construction meeting with GE Johnson. We had the opportunity to tour the new vocation/tech building after the meeting. Our new facility is impressive on so many levels! I feel fortunate to work in such an amazing building with such an amazing staff! During the HS volleyball game that I was helping to supervise, the Telluride soccer boys came into the building and were very complimentary of our new facilities. I thought that was pretty cool to have students from Telluride making a big deal
about how nice our school was. They were definitely impressed!
Thursday after school I watched our middle school volleyball girls in action. They played hard against Monte Vista, but unfortunately we lost both of the matches.
I worked on scheduling a targeted group of 6th grade students for our after school program. We are going to continue our coordinated reading approach in our after school program because our purpose is to increase academic achievement for ALL students.
I was able to get into quite a few classrooms throughout the week and was impressed with the instruction that was going on in a number of the classes. Everybody is working hard to ensure that we provide our students with the best education possible through quality planning and instruction.
