Focus on the Fabulous
It’s hard to single out one or two fabulous events/people this week, because we had so much going on and so many people pitching in to make it all possible. Our core belief of being committed to excellence was being lived out in so many different ways, that I just want to commend the middle school staff and thank everybody for all they did this week.
Rewind
We had a very busy week this past week. It started on Monday with our pre-registration. Thanks to Marsha and Deb for getting things organized and ready so that we could get kids registered ahead of time so that we will be able to start the year without skipping a beat on the first day of school. Tuesday I was busy making final preparations for NWEA testing. Thanks to Chris Hintz for taking the bull by the horns and getting things lined up for testing to take place. She did a great job with scheduling and with the help of Shelly Lopez, Cheri Garcia, and Rosa Ramos, testing on Wednesday and Thursday went smoothly. I also want to recognize the tech crew for all of their help getting us set up with computers. They were willing to do what it took to make sure we had the necessary computers so that we could get all of our Jump Start kids tested in two days!
On Tuesday evening we held our 6th grade orientation. We had a great turn out, treated our 6th graders and families to dinner, and discussed important information in regards to starting their middle school career. Thanks to all of the staff that attended that evening to meet students and parents. It’s important that we begin our relationships with families on a positive note. That evening we also provided sports physicals to our middle/high athletes. Thanks to everybody who volunteered to help make this a possibility. Because of everybody’s hard work we were able to provide physicals for over forty of our students.
Throughout the week I had several meetings related to various issues including para schedules, students, NWEA, and TI. Wednesday evening we had our BLT celebration and made plans for the next meetings. Thanks to Kindra for getting the meeting organized with fun ice breakers and special treats.
During the week, I also met with core teachers to talk about plans for the upcoming school year and the alignment process we will be working on at the middle school. We conducted NWEA testing on Wednesday and Thursday and met with students to determine grade placement. On Friday we had a staff meeting in which we reviewed the plans for the first day of school, reviewed data, and discussed our the middle school alignment, specifically focusing on academic vocabulary.

Forward Focus
We’re looking forward to getting our regular school year off to a great start on Tuesday morning! We will celebrate the students arrival with a fun assembly with a guest speaker. Students will attend a couple of classes during the day in which they will do some team building activities. The afternoon will be full of fun competitions with students and staff! Wednesday I have my monthly AD meeting and a copier restrictions meeting. I will be reviewing lesson plans on Monday morning and getting into classrooms throughout the week.
