Focus on the Fabulous
Congratulations to our 8th grade students for winning the first Merit Race of the year! Our students are focused and committed to excellence. The 8th graders did a great job the first quarter getting assignments turned in on time and keeping grades up. The 8th graders worked hard throughout the first semester and as a result they got to celebrate their win by taking a trip to the Inn of the Rio Grande Water park!
Not only did the 8th graders do a great job the first quarter, but our awesome staff did as well! Our staff’s commitment to providing kids with the support and resources they need to be successful in life is evident in the effort they put forth with our ICAP days. Mrs. Ruggles does a great job organizing these days every early release. She plans great motivational speakers that inspire all of us. When I drop into classes during ICAP days, I always see teachers working hard to accomplish the goals and objectives of each activity. I appreciate the team approach that everybody takes in ensuring we are providing our kids with the best education possible and to prepare them to be successful in life!

Rewind
Monday started with lesson plan reviews and the scheduling of walk throughs and instructional walks for the week. I had the chance to get into a couple classrooms during the day. Monday afternoon I met to discuss finalizing plans for the after school tutoring program. Tuesday our kids took the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey. I met with administration from the school and Parks and Rec program to discuss scheduling issues. Tuesday afternoon Ms. Donaldson, Mrs. Martinez and I did a few instructional walks together. Wednesday I spent the majority of the day finishing up data sharing with the 7th and 8th grade students. That afternoon I attended the ICAP training, led by Mrs. Ruggles. Wednesday evening we had some Halloween fun with the flash mob put on by Mrs. Martinez’s class and the dodge ball tournament and haunted house that the Vistas organized. Everybody had a great time! Thursday morning we honored our State School Board and Superintendent of the Year at our middle/high assembly. The kids had the opportunity to listen to some fun motivational speakers and got to participate in a variety of ICAP activities. That afternoon we had our PLCs and discussed options for teaching an integrated unit during the second quarter. Thursday afternoon our 8th grade class took their Merit trip to the Inn of the Rio Grande water park. Thanks to Shelly Lopez, Matthew Platt, Matt DeBois and Courtney Lancaster for chaperoning the trip. Friday we spent the day at Del Norte for the All Valley PlC. Teachers looked over results from district quarterlies and prepared tests for the second quarter.
