Focus on the Fabulous
Our middle school students had several valuable experiences this week. Our 8th graders had the chance to travel to Denver on Monday and Tuesday and visit the Metropolitan State Campus and attend the Adams County Career Expo. This trip gives students exposure to what college life is like and gets them thinking about post-secondary options. Thanks to Katrina Ruggles for making this trip happen for our kids each year. Thanks to the chaperones that attended and made this trip possible. On Wednesday, all of the middle school students had the chance to attend the Center Career Fair. Arabia and Raffi did an amazing job putting this fair together and there were over thirty booths set up for the students to visit and learn about a variety of career choices. These experiences are a direct reflection of our core belief of providing students with support and opportunities that will prepare them for their future and help them to be successful in life.
I want to recognize two of our 8th grade students who have done an excellent job with our weekly vocabulary tests and with their weekly reading. Hannah Montoya and Alexis Sanchez have both scored 100% for multiple weeks on their weekly tests and have turned in book reports for the reading competition. Mrs. Alfson donated Dairy Queen gift certificates to reward two students that have excelled on the vocabulary tests, and Alexis and Hannah were the two students who won the competition. Congratulations ladies and way to go!
Rewind
Tuesday I participated in several instructional walks with Mr. Welsh and middle/high school teachers. Wednesday morning our kids participated in ICAP activities and that afternoon our teachers took part in our monthly PLC. During our PLC time, teachers completed work on analyzing district quarterly data and lesson planning for the remainder of the quarter. We also made plans for our upcoming integrated Winter Olympics unit.
Fast Forward
Monday morning I will be finishing up reviewing lesson plans and scheduling walk throughs for the week. I will be meeting with the administrative team at 11:00 am. Tuesday morning I will attend the Secondary PLC in Sargent and that afternoon I will be meeting to discuss responsibilities and roles of staff in regards to IEP and RTI meetings. I plan on getting into classrooms as much as possible throughout the week. Thursday evening I will sit on a panel at Adams State to discuss the evaluation process and providing teachers with support, coaching and mentoring, and Kagan strategies. Our middle school basketball team will compete on Tuesday evening against Moffat/Mountain Valley. They will only have one game this week. Next week tournament play will begin.
A reminder to staff that NWEA testing for middle school students will start on Tuesday, December 10th. We hope to complete testing in two days and conduct make ups on Thursday.
