Viking Cheers!! Focus on the Fabulous!!
We had a successful pre-registration for the middle/high on Friday afternoon with a solid turnout so that we were able to register over one hundred students. It was a great time to meet with families and answer parent questions and concerns. We had parents fill out necessary paperwork for the year and the students were able to get their computers and schedules. This process will allow us to hit the ground running on the first day of school. A big thanks to Marsha and Debra for helping to get all the necessary forms together and for working late on Friday. I also appreciate Mike Martinez getting the cafeteria cleaned up early so we could get set up. Thanks to Dianna, Becky and Alice for getting their paperwork together so that we could distribute it to the parents. I also appreciate the tech crew, Julio, Teddy, Holmes, Eric, and Sean for having the computers ready to hand out. I know that is a huge under taking and things flowed smoothly. Cruzita and Soyla helped run the tables and got information communicated effectively to parents. This was a team effort and once again demonstrated how EVERYONE in our district is committed to excellence in ALL they do EVERY day.
Rewind
Monday I worked on getting things lined out for the sports physicals that we will be holding Tuesday, the 26th.
Thanks to all the staff that have volunteered to help with that. We were able to get over twenty students registered for their physicals at the pre-registration.
Marsha has been working hard on getting student schedules lined out for the year. She has worked hard to meet the needs of all of our students while honoring teacher preferences. Things don’t always work out perfectly, but she has done a great job getting our kids where they need to be. I appreciate her attention to this and her flexibility working it all out.
Tuesday I got into a number of classes to see how Jump Start was going. I want to commend Gail Martinez and Linda Donaldson for jumping right in with the Kagan Strategies and incorporating them in their daily instruction. Gail had the kids doing a fun team building activity with the Chicken Dance and Linda’s kids were practicing their multiplication facts with the fan and pick.
Kevin and I spent time on Tuesday restructuring the duty schedule to meet the needs of our new building. We worked on teacher assignments and responsibilities for the year.
Wednesday I finalized sports’ schedules and coaching responsibilities. Wednesdayafternoon we had a meeting with Adams State regarding our Senior Block partnership that we will be starting up this semester. We will have 17 ASU students on campus, working in our classrooms.
Thursday morning I met with Kevin, Julio, and Becky on making plans for NWEA testing at the end of Jump Start. Testing will take place during the second block on Wednesday and Thursday. All students will be testing in their second hour classes as students received their computers at pre-registration. The 6th graders will test in the library, as they will get their computers at 6th grade orientation.
Friday I got into a couple more classrooms, worked on plans for our TI classes, and held the pre-registration for 7th-8th
and10th-12th grade students.

Forward Focus
We have a lot going on this week. Monday I will be attending the Working Together curriculum training. Tuesday we will finish working on various schedules, attend the NWEA refresher training in the community room during lunch, and conduct sports’ physicals after school.
Wednesday we will hold the first round of NWEA testing during the 2nd hour block.
Students will take the reading and science tests at this time. Wednesday after school we will meet to make final plans for the 1st day of school. Thursday we will complete NWEA testing with the math and language tests. After school I will be meeting with the Language Arts team for the middle school to make plans for the upcoming year. Thursday evening we will have the 6th grade orientation in the commons area. Friday, I will be reviewing NWEA scores and meeting with individual students to discuss results. The SB 191 training will be held in the morning. Teachers will have time in the afternoon to work in rooms and make final preparations for the upcoming year. We will also
have a celebration for our summer birthdays and bid Josh farewell as he starts his newest chapter as an ASU student.
Thanks for all of your hard work during Jump Start. Here’s to another great week!
