Focus on the Fabulous
I want to say a huge thank you to Ms. Dolan, Mrs. Ramos, the Student Council and all of the middle school staff who pitched in to make Monday such a memorable occasion. I was touched by your thoughtfulness! I love the beautiful plaque and flowers and will definitely enjoy my gift. Thank you, thank you!
Congratulations to Camille Ruggles and Andres Almeida for earning the Outstanding Girl and Outstanding Boy honors for the year! Both of these students have been committed to excellence throughout the school year. Andres is an amazing young man and conducts himself accordingly in every aspect of his life. Camille is full of life and commits herself fully to whatever she takes on. Both of these students are role models for their fellow classmates and we are pleased to honor their accomplishments!
It was fun to see the end of year activities that teachers had planned for their students. Teachers worked hard to ensure that purposeful instruction continued throughout the week, but they also put some fun twists on the activities and learning experiences. Ms. Donaldson had her students designing clothes for me. Students were given some specific measurements and were required to design outfits based on those numbers that would fit their principal! Students had to use their math skills and their creativity to calculate and design… and they came up with some great outfits! Mr. Hagan had his students presenting the poems they had written to the rest of the class. I had the privilege of listening to a number of students present and was impressed with their writing and their willingness to share. We laughed together and even shed some tears. It was one of those special teaching moments. I told Mr. Hagan afterwards, that this is why we do what we do!

Rewind
We had an amazing week at Skoglund Middle School with all of the great things going on. We started the week by recognizing our top performing and hard working students at our annual awards assembly. Teachers took time to acknowledge those students who had achieved at high standards and demonstrated a commitment to excellence throughout the year. After the awards assembly, our kids had a great time at the pep assembly that was put on the Student Council with the help and guidance of Ms. Dolan and Mrs. Ramos. The kids had a GREAT time and the activities were fun for everyone. It was a great way to celebrate the day. I want to say a special thank you to Ms. Dolan and Mrs. Ramos again for planning everything for the BBQ and my lovely plaque and gift. I was truly touched by your thoughtfulness! After the festivities at the pep assembly we headed to the BBQ and enjoyed a fun lunch. Thanks to Mr. Vigil for manning the grill and everybody who brought food to share. I don’t know everybody who pitched in behind the scenes to pull all of this off, but I hope all of you know how much it meant to me that you put it all together. And… you all did a great job keeping it a secret. It was a delicious lunch and a real treat for everyone. Tuesday, our Knowledge Bowl team competed in their last meet of the season at Adams State. Mrs. Ruggles and Mrs. Weatherford did a great job with the team this year and the kids can feel very accomplished. That evening I attended our monthly Accountability and BOE meetings. The 6th and 7th grade teams presented on all that they’d done throughout the year, as did a number of our other clubs. It was evident at the BOE meeting all the great things that are going on at Skoglund Middle School with all of the clubs and sponsors that reported out! Our 8th graders attended their class trip on Thursday and had a great time. Students enjoyed the aquarium and zoo. Our eighth graders checked out on Friday and attended their graduation ceremony Friday evening.
Forward Focus
We will be winding down this week. On Monday morning our 7th graders will be celebrating their Merit win at Splashland! Sixth graders will be checking out during 7th period. Monday afternoon I will be traveling to Colorado Springs to attend the opening ceremony of the Space Symposium. I will be finishing up end of the year evaluations with teachers during the week. Tuesday will be the last day of school and I will be attending court at some point in regards to a student attendance issue. Wednesday will be a workday and teachers will be finalizing grades and wrapping up the year. I will be meeting with the 5th grade team to discuss incoming students. We will also celebrate Mrs. Parker’s retirement! I will be looking at student data and teacher recommendations to finalize the summer school lists.
