Focus on the Fabulous
Once again this week, there were quite a few fabulous things happening in our district! First and foremost, our school board was chosen by the Colorado Association of School Boards as this year’s All State School Board! Congratulations to Michael Lobato, Yuridia Cendejas, Richard Barela, James Sanchez and Margaret Faron for this honor! Their support makes it possible for us to provide our kids with the best education possible so that they can achieve at high levels and be successful in life.
I also want to recognize our amazing office staff. Marsha Felmlee and Debra Lujan help us to keep the school running! They are never looking for recognition but are always willing to do whatever is asked to make sure everything is taken care of and the school runs smoothly. On a daily basis, I run into the office and ask either Deb or Marsha if they can do something for me, and they always reply, “No problem,” with a smile on their face. They make my job, and all of our jobs, manageable. Thank you ladies, for everything- getting subs, helping with AD responsibilities, putting schedules together, making sure grades are in, contacting parents, and everything else you do! You are the best! We appreciate your commitment to excellence in all you do, everyday!
Marsha mentioned that teachers did a great job of getting grades in on time for the first quarter to make sure we could get report cards out in a timely fashion. Way to go teachers!!

It’s also necessary to recognize Susan Banning for all the work she does as our RTI Coordinator. She works very hard to make sure we are meeting the needs of all of our students and providing them with the support necessary so that they can be successful. We have a lot of kids who require additional support in a variety of areas, and Susan is an integral part in making sure that happens. She goes the extra mile, to make sure our kids are being taken care of in every aspect of their lives. She helps provide food and clothing for those in need, organizes counseling services, helps kids get glasses and hearing aids, just about everything, Susan does it! Our kids are blessed to have someone like her looking out for their best interests. She keeps all of us in check, making sure that we are taking care of our kiddos, and I appreciate all her efforts.
Rewind
We had a lot going on this week, the first week of the 2nd quarter. On Monday, Mr. Jones and I met to work on schedules for winter and spring testing. I had the chance to get into some classrooms. Mr. Hagan was doing a gallery walk with his students in which they read passages and drew conclusions based on the information given. It was a great activity and the kids were actively engaged and having some great conversations about the passages. Mr. Hagan does a great job with lesson planning to ensure quality instruction. Tuesday morning we started early with our BLT. George Face Timed us from India and shared some of his experiences about visiting schools in India. He talked about the differences he saw between the two school systems and we were able to ask a few questions related to his trip. The rest of the meeting was focused on planning our upcoming PLC and various other agenda items. At lunch on Wednesday, I treated the Skoglund Spotlight Students to lunch and then attended the Health Advisory Committee meeting. Thursday morning I participated in the Leadership in Action meeting via conference call. We discussed the Multi Tiered System of Supports. Friday, I had a great day data sharing with all the 6th and 7th graders in Mr. Hagan’s class. Each student has his/her own individual data folder and we reviewed their performance on TCAP and NWEA. I designed a goal setting sheet and students used this to assess their performance and set personal goals for themselves for the school year. I really enjoyed being in the classroom and getting the chance to work with the kids.
Thanks to all the teachers that pitched in to help cover classes on Friday with the volleyball tournament and a number of teachers out of the building. Kate Newmyer and Rosa Ramos took on some extra responsibilities to help cover classes. Thanks to everybody pitching in we had a productive instructional day!
Fast Forward Focus
I will be reviewing lesson plans on Monday and getting into classrooms throughout the week. Monday afternoon I will be meeting to discuss the after school tutoring program. On Tuesday morning kids will be taking the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey. I will be meeting to discuss athletics and Parks and Rec scheduling. Wednesday I will be finishing off data sharing with the 7th and 8th graders. Thursday morning our kids will participate in ICAP activities and that afternoon we will have a PLC. Friday we will be participating in the All Valley PLC.
