Focus on the Fabulous
We had a successful week of TCAP testing prior to Spring Break. I would like to thank all of the staff for pulling together and working hard to ensure that we provided our kids with the best testing environment possible. Lori Cooper did an excellent job of making sure we were well prepared to administer the tests and she helped us throughout the week, answering all of the calls and questions we threw her way. Thanks to Lori for her guidance and support throughout the week. Our ladies in the office worked diligently to make sure we were ready to go on Monday. Thanks to Deb and Marsha for lightening the load for the teachers by getting all the testing booklets prepared ahead of time. This took the burden off of the teachers, as they filled out all of the information for each student on each booklet. They also did an excellent job of keeping tests organized and made sure each teacher got the required materials for testing each day. Thanks too, to Scott Poole, Becky Reed, Brandon Selby, and Carol and Cheryl in the library for helping whenever asked. It’s nice to have some go to people to help when different situations present themselves. We were able to handle each incident smoothly and get our kids tested in a timely fashion. The entire staff did a great job of ensuring that TCAP week went off without a hitch. We had a couple of bumps in the road, but things were handled well and we got all of our kids tested successfully.
I also want to recognize the efforts of our students throughout the week. I dropped into several classes each day, and the focus and determination that I saw from the students was impressive. I believe we prepared our kids to the best of our ability and that they recognized the importance of these tests and performed to the best of their ability. What more could you ask for? And, by the number of TCAP effort tickets I had turned in each day, I can tell that the middle school teachers were recognizing that same level of commitment in our kids.

Rewind
Monday morning we kicked off the week with our TCAP Assembly. It was fun to watch the videos that Mr. Schoenfelder’s class put together to motivate the kids for TCAP. We recognized the successes of our high school students from last year’s testing and we challenged kids to work hard on this year’s tests. The 8th and 10th grade students then proceeded to the designated testing areas to take the science assessments. The rest of the week was spent on TCAP testing for all middle school students. Wednesday I attended the Infinite Campus training and after school participated in the Wellness Policy work group. Friday, we conducted make up tests for kids who had missed throughout the week. I spent the morning at school helping with make-up tests and then headed to Alamosa for a court proceeding. Saturday our kids competed in the end of year wrestling tournament in Centauri. The following Monday the boys competed at regionals and those that qualified wrestled this past weekend at state.
Forward Focus
We will start the week Wednesday with an early morning BLT meeting. Later that morning I will head to Alamosa for the monthly AD meeting. Friday, many of our middle school students will have the opportunity to attend the Science Symposium in Springs. Mrs. Martinez has organized this effort for our middle school students and will be acting as the student liaison. Our spring sports’ seasons will be kicking off this week. Baseball and track practice will be starting and Saturday our kids will participate in the first track meet of the season in Centauri.
