Viking Cheers!! Focus on the Fabulous!!
Maria Villagomez has been working hard for several weeks to get all of our IRI testing done. I appreciate her organizing the process and scheduling all the kids to get this piece of assessment done for us so that we have beginning of the year data. This is another example of our commitment to quality assessment that will lead to high achievement for all students. I also want to thank Mike Martinez for helping with the swamp coolers in the middle/high. I appreciate his willingness to shift gears and help us get them unloaded and set up in an effort to keep students and staff comfortable and provide everybody with an educational environment that promotes learning. Thanks to my husband, Trever, for delivering the swamp coolers and helping us to get them set up too! It really is a team effort. With all the new changes in our building, it takes a lot of adjusting and working together to keep things running smoothly and stay focused on our purpose to increase academic achievement for ALL students.
I also want to thank Deb Lujan for helping out with the athletic responsibilities. She has helped me get all the middle school paperwork organized to ensure physicals and emergency consent forms are up to date. She has also helped finalize the paperwork to get officials paid for all of the sporting activities that took place last week. She is always willing to jump in and help with a positive attitude!

Rewind
Monday morning I worked with the TI Reading classes on getting the Reading Plus program up and running. This is the newest
component to our TI Reading program and will focus on reading fluency and comprehension. It is a web-based reading intervention system that uses innovative technology to provide individualized scaffolded silent reading practice for students. It is designed in alignment with current reading research and develops and improves reading proficiency for
students. Rosa Ramos will be helping with this part of the program during 1stand 3rd hours. Along with the Reading Plus
component, we will continue to focus on academic vocabulary and authentic literacy in our TI classes.
I conducted walkthroughs throughout the week and provided lesson plan feedback to teachers. I appreciate the dialogue that has been created through this process and the willingness of our teaching staff to explain processes and/or make adjustments to ensure that they are providing kids with quality instruction that leads to positive academic growth. I also spent time getting things lined out for all the sporting events for the week. Tuesday afternoon our volleyball girls traveled to Alamosa for their first games of the season. Our football team had a big win in Monte Vista that night. Thursday afternoon, Mr. Welsh, Mr. Jones and I met with Adams State and the Boettcher representative to discuss our involvement in mentoring interns for the Boettcher program. We also finalized plans for our Senior Block students that will be starting their hours this coming week. Thursday evening our football team had another big win, defeating Alamosa. We also hosted our first middle school volleyball game. We played Centauri and our 8th grade team had an exciting come from behind win. Way to go Lady Vikings. Friday, I spent the majority of the day updating the staff and student handbooks with Mr. Jones. We updated calendars and schedules and made final revisions.
We also held middle school class meetings, thanks to Ms. Renner’s organization.

Forward Focus
This coming week I have several meetings
scheduled dealing with student transfers, IEPs, and gym use. Tuesday morning we will have our first
Building Leadership Team meeting. We
will be welcoming new members, reviewing norms and expectations, making plans
for next week’s PLC and reviewing our walkthrough documents. Please communicate with your PLC representatives
if you would like anything added to the agenda or discussed. Wednesday night we will have our annual Open
House. I will be working during the week
to round up door prizes for our fabulous drawing! Our middle school volleyball team will play
Monte Vista at home on Tuesday and then travel to Del Norte for their game on
Thursday night. Our football team will
play one game this week, on Thursday, at home, against Del Norte. The Tuesday night game against Centauri will
be rescheduled for October 9th.
Friday we will be hosting our middle/high cross country meet at the
park. Come out and root for all of our
athletes this week!
We’ll look forward to seeing everyone at our Open House on Wednesday night.
