Focus on the Fabulous
Watching the Rockies
with some of our great kids!
I am always impressed with how our staff pitches in to help with all of the different activities that we have going on throughout the week! With last week being extremely busy with events and activities, our staff members once again came through to pull everything off! Thank you to everyone who gave of their time to see that we got it all done! With our support, all kids can achieve at high levels and be successful in life.
The 8th graders had a great trip on Monday to the Reality Store, Trinidad State and the fish hatchery. Carolyn Ruybal and Adele Alfson made this experience possible for our students. The kids were attentive throughout the day and well behaved. They represented our school well! Mrs. Alfson commented on how they participated and asked questions at both Trinidad State and the fish hatchery, and even got to feed the fish.
We recognized the great behavior and hard work of some of our middle and high school students by taking them to the Colorado Rockies game on Wednesday. These students have not received any behavior referrals or Zaps for the entire school year: Brandon Chavez, Camille Ruggles, Shannon Weatherford, Cristian Guaderrama, Ethan Salazar, Monique Garcia, Jordan Lobato, Henry Torrez, Salma Cendejas, Isaiah Archuleta and Aaliyah Porres. We left early and got to participate in the Channel 9 Science and Weather day before the game. We work hard to provide positive reinforcement for our students and recognize their efforts and this was a great way to do this. They are carrying out our core belief that we ALL must be committed to excellence in ALL we do EVERYDAY!
I want to thank Mr. Schoenfelder and the high school track team for all their help with the meet on Friday. We had a successful meet with fifteen teams competing. Mr. Schoenfelder did a great job of getting things ready and people in place to run the events and the high school kids stepped up and were spectacular in fulfilling the various responsibilities throughout the day. A big thank you goes out to the middle school staff who donated food and money to help with the concessions stand. Linda Donaldson did a great job getting staff and donations organized and volunteering the 8th grade class sponsors to help run the concessions throughout the day! It was a success! The Vista volunteers, Matthew, Etienne, Shayla, Kathleen, and Arabia, were also a huge help with the track meet and concessions.

Rewind
Smarty pants!
We made it through our busy week! Monday, as I mentioned earlier, the 8th graders had a successful trip to the Reality Store and fish hatchery. I spent the first half of the day getting evaluated by the Focal Point team and Mr. Welsh. We dropped into a few classrooms and looked over data and progress we have made on our building action plan. That afternoon I headed to Alamosa to watch our Center Vikings beat the Alamosa baseball team. On Tuesday, thanks to Mr. Jones and Mrs. Ruggles, our 8th graders had the opportunity to visit the Adams State campus and watch our high school baseball and soccer teams compete on the ASU fields. Wednesday, we took a group of middle/high kids to the Rockies games and the 6th graders took a trip to the Sand Dunes. Thursday we had Knowledge Bowl and baseball competitions after school. We hosted the Knowledge Bowl meet and our 8th grade team place took 5th place! Thanks to Alice and Katrina for getting things together for the meet and to all of the people who stayed to help. Friday we hosted the middle high track tournament. Thanks to Mr. Schoenfelder for all of his help with the middle school meet. He got things organized and lined out the high school track team to ensure the meet ran smoothly. It was another successful event. Saturday morning I drove to Denver for the CADA conference. The conference ran from Saturday to Monday, and I drove back home yesterday afternoon.
Forward Focus
This week is another busy one! Monday I will be up in Denver for the end of the CADA conference. Tuesday, middle/high students will be taking writing assessments in their Language Arts classes. I have a couple of IEPs and a parent meeting in the morning. That afternoon our baseball team will host Salida. Wednesday some of our kids will head to the Hershey’s Track meet with Mrs. Rice. I have an AD meeting in Alamosa at noon. I will be back at school in the afternoon to have Master Contract meetings with teachers. Thursday I will be making another trip to Denver, this time with my son’s class for their trip to the Museum. I will drive home early Friday morning so that I can help with the track meet at the park and the baseball team’s double header against Monte Vista.
