Focus on the Fabulous
Congratulations to the students that were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society this past week. Newly inducted students are Leslie Maldonado, Omar Mendoza, Yamilex Romero, Isaiah Archuleta and Mayrel Aguilar. Members who maintained their qualifications and continue to be part of NJHS are Alexis Sanchez-Duran, Shannon Weatherford, Andres Almeida, and Camille Ruggles. The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929. Five main purposes have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.
A HUGE thank you to everybody who pitched in to help with the end of the year track meet. Mr. Schoenfelder was a huge help in getting everything organized and lined out. I couldn't have done it without him. Thanks to Mr. Jones for helping me roundup help and make sure I had all the events covered. I appreciate that the high school track team was willing and able to jump in and help run all the events! I ended up having more than enough, even though we had some last minute no shows! Thanks to Maria Villagomez for taking gate. She adjusted her schedule for the day to lend an extra hand. Ms. Banning, Brenda Padilla and Rebecca Marquez all helped out with lunch and getting workers fed. Thanks to Courtney and the track team for handling concessions and making some money for our different organizations. Thanks to all the Vistas- Raffi, Emily, and Carly for helping with announcing, score keeping and awards. Thanks to Matt Dubois, Dale Beiriger, Greg Jones and Matthew Platt for helping with the field events. There were several other coaches from different schools and other individuals that pitched in to help- Tommy Archuleta, Dave Jackson, Andy Lavier, Dave Furukawa, Paige Fringer and Gail Martinez.

Rewind
Monday was spent on the EOY building review with Mr. Knight. We were able to get into classrooms and have some great discussions about the work we are doing at Skoglund. Tuesday evening we had a number of students inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Thanks to Katrina Ruggles for organizing this event and being the NJHS sponsor. Wednesday we had an early morning BLT. We are happy to welcome Nate Koerber and Kevin Hagan onto the BLT for next year. Our 6th graders took their class trip to Hooper pool that day and had a great time. Our baseball team finished up their season this week. They had a game against Alamosa on Monday, Centauri on Tuesday and then finished it off beating Centennial to earn the Consolation Championship title in their bracket. Way to end the season strong Vikings! Friday we hosted the end of the year track meet. Thanks again to everyone who pitched in to help and make the event a success.
Forward Focus
We will start the week by recognizing our top performing and hard working students for the year at the Middle School Awards Assembly. Following the assembly, we will move to the gym for an exciting Pep Assembly put on by the Student Council. Our 6th graders will have their dental screenings in the morning. The afternoon I plan on devoting to classroom walkthroughs. Tuesday our Knowledge Bowl team will be competing in the end of the year competition at Adams State. I will be sitting in on the science interviews that afternoon. We will have our monthly Accountability and BOE meetings that evening. Wednesday will be our students last ICAP day. That afternoon our teachers will participate in PLCs focusing on end of the year NWEA scores and wrapping up plans for the year. I will be helping out with the math interviews that afternoon. I will be scheduling end of the year evaluations with teachers throughout the week. During these meetings I will be finalizing teachers’ evaluations for the year and assessing progress on goals. On Thursday our 8th graders will be traveling to Denver for their end of the year trip! Due to the change in the calendar, 8th graders should take final exams on Wednesday or Friday of this week. Sixth and seventh graders should take finals either Thursday or Friday of this week.
