Focus on the Fabulous
We had a couple of positive celebrations at the middle school this week. On Tuesday our Skoglund Spotlight Students were treated to lunch from Dairy Queen as one of the perks for their hard work. Omar Mendoza-Loya, Kim Lopez, and Viviana Cereceres enjoyed a treat as a result of their hard work and recognition from their teachers. On Wednesday all of the students who have gone all year without a behavior referral celebrated with a pizza party. We had 61 students at the middle school who have been on their best behavior throughout the year and have not received any behavior referrals. That’s about half of the student body of the middle school and we want to recognize the positive behavior of these students! Keep it up middle schoolers- you are doing a great job this year.
I also want to recognize my amazing Para professionals- Maria Villagomez, Rosa Ramos, Soyla Guadiana, and Shelly Lopez. They are an integral part of our teaching team and they are committed to excellence in all they do every day! While our teaching staff was at the All Valley PLC last week, these ladies worked hard getting things together for our Olympics unit and our academic vocabulary for the 3rd quarter. They put together an awesome visual display to get our kids motivated for our upcoming Winter Olympics unit. Each week, they work hard to support our kids in their classrooms by providing additional instruction and support. Mrs. Villagomez does a great job with our TI students and providing them with extra support in reading. Mrs. Ramos has taken on a leadership role with our Reading Plus program. She supports our TI program by providing kids with extra support with reading fluency. She does a great job holding the kids accountable and making sure they are finishing the required number of lessons each week. Ms. Guadiana has stepped up to help with the Reading Plus program as well and is helping us to target some of our students based on the results of our NWEA winter testing. Mrs. Lopez has been a welcome addition to our staff and has helped in a variety of ways to make sure we are providing our kids with the best education possible. Thank you ladies for all of your hard work and all that you do for our kids! You make a huge difference!
Rewind
I spent time throughout the week reviewing lesson plans, conducting walkthroughs and working on teacher evaluations. Tuesday afternoon our girls’ basketball team hosted Sargent. The 7th grade team (which is made up of only 6th graders) played hard against the Farmers and even though they came up short, showed that they can play some tough defense and get some points on the board. Our 8th graders had a successful match up and celebrated their first win of the season. On Thursday our girls traveled to Creede. Tuesday evening I attended the monthly DAC and BOE meetings. I reported out on our NWEA testing. Overall, the middle school students were successful on hitting their target goals and these results provide evidence of the solid instruction that is taking place in all of the middle school classes. Wednesday morning we had an early BLT meeting. We discussed a number of issues related to the middle/high including parent teacher conferences and eligibility. We also made plans for our upcoming PLC. I met with the 6th grade class and had them vote on their Merit win. The 6th graders voted to go to the movies, so I will be setting that trip up this coming week.
