Viking Cheers!! Focus on the Fabulous!!
Our big celebration this week is the success of our students at Regional Science Fair. We sent twenty-two middle school students to ASC to compete, which is the largest number of Skoglund students to date. The kids have been working hard in their Explore classes and have received support and guidance from staff and parents. This was a valuable experience for all of our students and will make an impact on the continued development of our science program. These efforts support our purpose of increasing student academic achievement. Congratulations are in order for Jerry Gonzalez, Carmen and Camille Ruggles, Melissa Chavez, Briana Garcia and Melina Espinoza. Lisa Renner did a good job as the middle school science fair coordinator and we appreciate all the help from Mr. Newmyer in helping us through this process for the first time. We will look forward to future science fair competitions as part of our commitment to pursuing excellence.
Spotlight Students
We had a number of nominations for Skoglund Spotlight Students. Thanks to all of you who submitted nominations. It’s pretty neat to hear about all of the positive things our kids are doing. Thanks to the hard work of all our staff we are able to support our kids so they can experience success and achieve at high levels. Congratulations to Roxana Armijo, Gloria Dominguez, and Alexis Sanchez- Duran for being this month’s Skoglund Spotlight Students.
Rewind
I was able to finish my third quarter walk throughs this past week. I am feeling good about the instruction and learning that is going on in the middle school. Teachers are well prepared, providing solid instruction, and incorporating a variety of engagement strategies into their daily lessons. Through this quality planning and instruction we are preparing our students to do well academically and this will lead to high student achievement.
There were a number of meetings this past week to discuss student concerns and progress. Thanks to Susan, Adele, Jaime, and Julie for spending time meeting to discuss individual needs and helping to decide what needs to be done to keep kids on track and successful for the remainder of the year. Other meetings included the monthly AD meeting in Alamosa and a brief grant meeting with Lori Cooper in regards to plans for next year’s reading instruction.
I have been working on preparations for the upcoming wrestling tournament we will be hosting this Saturday. I have had several meetings with Chris Vance and Brian Ullery to get things together and make sure we are ready to roll on the 17th.
This past Saturday, I spent the day at Mountain Valley watching our wrestlers compete. We took third place as a team, behind two much larger schools. Our wrestlers and coaches had another great week. Keep it up Vikings!
