Focus on the Fabulous
Congratulations to our newest round of Skoglund Spotlight Students. Mr. Koerber nominated Gilberto Arana- Granados because he demonstrates all the characteristics of a successful student. He has been engaged, motivated and hardworking. Mr. Koerber has noticed that Gilberto is taking his academics more seriously and sees it as a path to achievement. Mrs. Martinez nominated our next two Spotlight Students- Jose Luna and Micaela Miguel. She stated that Jose comes to class ready to learn and always tries. He asks questions and gives answers when no one wants to offer an answer. She said he is always a respectful kid. I, personally, have seen Jose make huge strides this year as far as his education is concerned. He is focused on learning and has had excellent behavior throughout the year. Micaela Miguel has been doing a great job with her writing. She confers with her peer grader and takes the time needed to make her partner a good writer. She’s always on task and turns in her work on time. She takes her education seriously and gives a solid effort in all of her school work. Our final Spotlight student is Angel Ramos. He was nominated by Ms. Dolan. He is hardworking and devoted to his own success. He completes his assignments and hands them in on time. She appreciates that he doesn’t whine and he responds well when corrected in either behavior or academics. Angel has taken his transition to middle school seriously and is having a successful 6th grade year!
Congratulations Skoglund Spotlight students! You are demonstrating a commitment to excellence in all you do!

Rewind
I started the week with a student meeting on Monday morning. That afternoon I met with the DLT and went over the UIP and made plans for next year. I had the chance to get into a number of classrooms throughout the week. Tuesday I attended a couple of IEPs. Our baseball team traveled to Centauri for a game that afternoon. Wednesday our band students participated in the Solo and Ensemble Festival in Alamosa. Thursday was a busy day. Our 7th and 8th grade students took CMAS. Our 7th grade students took three sessions of social studies and our 8th grade students took three sessions of science. Thanks to Mrs. Cooper and Mr. Paez for helping with all of the testing procedures and technological issues. Our teachers did a great job with the testing and we made it through the first round of CMAS.
Our 6th graders spent the day celebrating the Merit win at the Loft at Adams State University. Thanks to Mr. Hagan, Ms. Banning, Mrs. Alfson, Mr. Platt, and Mrs. DeHerrera for chaperoning the trip with our 6th graders. It sounds like they had a great time.
