Viking Cheers!! Focus on the Fabulous!!
Victory Jacks after the big win over Alamosa!
Congratulations to our middle school athletes for a great fall season. On Thursday afternoon our middle school football team defeated Alamosa in the last game of the season. Our Viking football team was undefeated this year with 8 wins and ZERO losses! Way to go boys. They won the last game with class and athleticism. Congrats to both the players and the coaches! Our middle school volleyball girls defeated Sangre de Cristo on Saturday to become the Consolation Champions in their bracket! They lost the first game of the tournament; however, they came back and beat Alamosa and then Sangre to end the season with a big win. Our cross country team has had a successful run, and competed well in Monte Vista on Friday. Despite the ugly weather we had several runners finish with recognitions. Mr. Schoenfelder is making plans to take several of our middle school runners to the state competition! Our coaches and players have demonstrated our Commitment to Excellence!

Rewind
Monday, I spent the day reviewing lesson plans and getting things lined up for the After School Reading program. I was able to complete a couple more rounds of instructional walks with two different groups of teachers during the week. We were able to visit several classrooms and had some great conversations about the teaching and learning observed. I appreciate looking at the classroom setting from various perspectives and considering different viewpoints. The conversations led to some great ideas for refining instruction on a daily basis. I also had the chance to drop by a couple of Mrs. Ruggles’ classes to see how the Working Together project was coming along. The class had panel discussions with the Dream Team members to continue the process of identifying the most important health issues facing our kids. Tuesday, I had several meetings including the Health Advisory Board, Accountability and the monthly Board meeting.
As I mentioned earlier, we finished up our fall sports’ seasons this week. Football finished up with their game in Alamosa on Thursday. Our cross country team had a successful meet despite the bad weather on Friday and our volleyball girls ended their season with a win on Saturday. We are getting ready to start the middle school boys’ basketball season this coming
week!
On Thursday, I met with Becky Reed to make plans to offer a research class for our Explore students. This class will hopefully lay the foundation for our students and help them with the research they will be conducting in putting together history and
science projects for the district competitions. Just another way we are striving to provide students with support so that they can achieve at high levels and be successful in life.
We had our All Valley PLC on Friday at Sargent. I was glad for the chance to visit with our principals around the Valley and discuss what was happening in their buildings. I was able to drop in on several of the middle school PLCs and was
impressed with the learning conversations that I overheard. I also noticed that the Center folks were taking leadership roles in several of the PLCs. It sounded like there were a lot of great conversations going on about effective instruction and successful strategies to enhance learning.
