Focus on the Fabulous
This past week we recognized Marsha Felmlee and Debra Lujan on Administrative Assistants’ Day. These two ladies are integral parts of our operations at the middle/high and ensure that everything runs smoothly on a daily basis. It’s a pleasure to work with these two ladies every day. They are more than competent at what they do each day and are lovely to work with! They handle everything that we throw at them. Marsha does an amazing job with the schedule, she makes sure classes are covered every day, and handles the various things that are thrown at her with a positive attitude and a can do mentality. Debra has been a huge help with scheduling and the extra responsibilities that athletics entails. She helps to get officials for the different events that we host, stays on top of eligibilities, and makes sure all the athletes have the necessary paperwork taken care of so that they can play. She also does more than is required in helping with transportation issues. It would be impossible to mention all the things they do, but their commitment to excellence in all they do everyday ensures that our school is functioning at its highest potential! Thanks for everything ladies!
Congratulations to Mrs. Newmyer and our Solo and Ensemble students. Our students performed very well and were recognized for their accomplishments with their performances. A number of students earned the Superior rating: Carlos Valencia-snare drum solo, Minga Francisco- clarinet solo,Victoria Montoya-bass clarinet solo. These students will be performing again this week at their Spring Concert. These students received a II-Excellent, some received a II+ , and you will hear many of them next Wed.: Gabriela Bucio- clarinet solo, Victoria Montoya-m alto clarinet solo II+, Alexis Sanchez-flute duet with Mrs. Newmyer accompanying, Camille Ruggles—her very first trumpet performance (she normally plays flute), Miguel Gomez—snare drum solo, Minga Francisco and Gabriela Bucio, clarinet duet, II+, Marina Hurtado, clarinet solo II+, Natalia Gonzalez- clarinet solo, Gloria Dominguez-clarinet solo, Alexis Sanchez- flute solo, Camille Ruggles- flute solo, and Cosme Cordova-snare drum solo, II-. Another group of students received a III—Good, and to be honest the saxophone judge was very difficult, so the students had high standards placed on them for this instrument.
Great work band students and Mrs. Newmyer. Your hard work throughout the year paid off and you represented our school well! Congratulations.

Rewind
I was able to get into classrooms and check lesson plans on Tuesday morning. I also spent a good part of the day getting things ready for NWEA testing and the Rockies trip. Our students attended the anti-bullying workshop from 1:00- 3:00 pm in the auditorium. That afternoon our baseball team hosted Sierra Grande and celebrated a win. Wednesday I accompanied our merit winners to the 9News Weather Day and Rockies game in Denver. Students who were selected to attend this event had been identified for having zero behavior referrals, solid work effort and great behavior throughout the year. We took about 18 middle school students and had a great time! Thursday and Friday morning our middle school students took their end of the year NWEA tests. Thursday afternoon our baseball team traveled to Alamosa for a game and our Knowledge Bowl team hosted their yearly meet. Thanks to Katrina Ruggles and Julie Weatherford for being in charge of the event and to all the volunteers for helping to make it a success. I treated our Skoglund Spotlight students to lunch on Friday and our track team competed successfully at the Sangre de Cristo meet. Our baseball team traveled to Salida and competed that afternoon.
Fast Forward
As always, I will spend Monday morning checking lesson plans and scheduling walk throughs for the week. Our 8th grade students will be heading to Alamosa to participate in Reality Store and visit the TSJC campus. I will be attending the All Valley Principals’ PLC in Alamosa at noon. I have an afternoon student meeting in Monte Vista. Tuesday our 7th and 8th graders will be traveling to Springs to attend a science event, visit a college campus and the Garden of the Gods. Thanks to Gail Martinez for putting all of this together. I have a manifestation meeting that afternoon. I am trying to reschedule our baseball game. Wednesday morning we will meet to review the ZAP policy. Mrs. Rice will be taking a number of middle school students to compete at the Hershey’s Track meet in Alamosa. I plan on getting into classrooms and that afternoon there will be another middle/high bullying prevention training. Our middle/high band will be performing at their Spring Concert that evening. Linda Donaldson will be recognized at the Teacher Recognition Dinner in Alamosa Wednesday evening. I will be taking a personal day on Thursday so that I can attend my son’s end of the year field trip to Colorado Springs. There will be a staff wellness gathering Thursday afternoon at Cattails. Our track team will be competing at the Alamosa meet on Friday.
