Viking Cheers!! Focus on the Fabulous!!
We are working hard to meet the needs of all of our students at the middle school and reinforce our core belief that with our support ALL kids can achieve at HIGH Levels. Rosa Ramos has taken the lead of our Reading Plus program, which is an added component of our TI classes. She has done a great job of organizing the kids and keeping track of their progress. I appreciate her focused attention. Because of her efforts, our kids have been working hard and accomplishing their goals with this intensive reading program. Soyla Guadiana is also helping to provide some of our high needs students with some intensive reading instruction. We have worked hard to identify the needs of our kids, and provide them with individualized support so that they can be successful. We wouldn’t be able to do this without hardworking, dedicated individuals who are willing to spend the time and energy to meet the needs of our kids.
I’d also like to recognize Cruzita DeHerrera. She has done an excellent job with our ISS program and made sure that this element of our discipline process is organized and well run. She holds the students to high expectations and ensures that they are working throughout their time in ISS. She has also been a huge part of ensuring that our Zap process runs
smoothly. Cruzita is a hard worker and extremely organized. I appreciate her attention to detail and follow through.
I know that when I give her a task she will take care of it. She demonstrates our commitment to excellence in all she
does!

Rewind
This past week, I was able to conduct another round of instructional walks. Becky Reed
and Julie Weatherford accompanied me and we had the chance to see several of our middle school teachers in action. I had to adjust my schedule a little bit, as I was out on Monday to attend a close friend’s funeral. Tuesday morning I met with the BLT in Alamosa and we discussed issues of concern and made plans for this week’s PLC. This quarter we are starting the History Fair process in our Explore classes. Becky Reed and I taught classes during 7th period focusing on research strategies and getting the kids prepared to begin the History Fair process. I had several meetings this week to discuss various issues including responsibilities of staff members, plan the PLC, order science supplies and prepare for the upcoming boys’ basketball season.

I will be attending the Mentoring Matters training in Denver on Monday and Tuesday. This is the final session of training to prepare us for hosting our Boettcher residents next year. Our boys will have their first basketball games this week.
On Tuesday, we will host our first home game against Monte Vista and Thursday the boys will travel to San Luis. Wednesday we will have an early release. The morning will be spenton ICAP activities and the afternoon our staff will participate in our PLC. We will meet in the cafeteria to conduct our Bloomboard self evaluations. Thursday and Friday I will be getting into classrooms. I also have an RTI meeting scheduled to make sure we are addressing the needs of specific students.
